Hello, my name is Carol and I run Forge Lane Bakers - our homebased microbakery in the North East. I’ve worked in London for many years as a pastry chef including stints at Claridges, Baker & Spice and St. John Restaurant.  My husband and I opened our first bakery business in the South West in 2008, which went on to be very successful. After having our two children, we decided to sell up and relocate to the North East to be closer to family. Forge Lane Brownies started trading in 2016 and we began baking brownies to sell at Food Festivals, farmers markets and also postal deliveries.

Our business evolved even further in January 2020 when we expanded our product range to include sourdough breads, farmhouse loaves, savoury pastries and a wider range of cakes, changing our name to Forge Lane Bakers to reflect this.  We initially sold our produce on a lunchtime at a local business park and frequently sold out when suddenly the coronavirus hit the world and we had to rethink our business overnight. We set up a weekly delivery service during the lockdown and now deliver our bread, pastries and cakes every Friday evening to the locals. Looking to the future, we plan to carry on with the delivery round permanently as its been very well received, as well as continuing to send out our delicious brownie parcels via post. Hopefully, we can make it back to the business parks again when life returns to normal!
